Formulation Lab
In our formulation lab we help develop products for the home, health and beauty industries, and also help create new consumer and industrial formulated products. These projects may be based upon Chemir deformulations, or created from our client’s innovative concepts.
Each formula is made up of several different of sources of raw materials. In the formulations laboratory we incorporate these ingredients into a batching process using the lightning mixers. A high shear mixer (homogenizer) is used for emulsified-type products such as creams, lotions, sunscreens, etc to help reduce the particle size in order to implement the stability of the formulation. Each formulation is evaluated based on appearance, color, odor, pH, viscosity and solids to help establish target physical parameters that meet the client’s requirements for the final product. These parameters become specifications, and can be measured by using the following instruments:
- Fisher Scientific Accummet pH meter (measuring pH)
- Brookfield LVDV-E Viscometer (measuring viscosity)
- Brookfield TC-502 Water bath (equilibrate the temperature of samples for viscosity measurements)
- Fisher Scientific Isotemp Oven (measuring solid content)
In this lab we can also determine the stability of the formulation. The stability ovens used to evaluate shelf life are:
- 25ºC/60% Relative Humidity Chamber
- 40ºC/75% Relative Humidity Chamber
- Freeze/Thaw cycles
When a formulations project gets initiated, we develop a variety of prototypes that meets the client’s concept. Discussions and feedbacks are generated between Chemir and Client to help tweak the formulation to a final approved formula.
