Chemir Provides Benzene Testing to the Soft Drink Industry

June 1, 2006, St. Louis, MO - Chemir Analytical Services offers testing for the presence of benzene, a known carcinogen, in soft drink products.  Benzene can form in beverages containing benzoate salts and ascorbic acid or erythorbic acid when exposed to high levels of temperature and light.

The FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) has been investigating benzene levels in soft drinks, flavored water, flavored soda, juice, and juice drinks and has found several beverages to contain concentrations of benzene above the US EPA's standard of 5 ppb for water. Chemir provides testing to detect and quantitate levels of benzene at the appropriate ppb levels.  For questions regarding benzene testing, please call 800-659-7659 or contact info@chemir.com.

An independent laboratory, Chemir offers chemical analysis and testing to solve non-routine problems.  Our cGMP, FDA registered facilities provide materials identification, product characterization and pharmaceutical testing.  Scientists are also experienced in providing litigation support.
