Chemir Acquires Custom Synthesis Provider

May 19, 2006, St. Louis, MO - Chemir Analytical Services announces the acquisition of Gateway Chemical Technology, Inc., a custom synthesis and process development services provider. Gateway enhances Chemir's custom synthesis services and provides years of experience in the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and specialty chemicals industries. Both companies are located in the Westport area of St. Louis, MO.

"Chemir Analytical Services began as the lab that solves tough challenging problems, such as identifying contaminants in a product, or resolving failure issues, " explains Shri Thanedar, Ph.D., CEO of Chemir.  "We have special expertise in the development of pharmaceutical and medical device products. Gateway Chemical Technology enables us to expand our services to include synthesis of organic molecules, an essential step in discovering new medicines."

Gateway Chemical Technology, Inc., began in 1995 and now has ten employees. From milligram to multi-kilogram scales, the scientists synthesize molecules of pharmaceutical intermediates, bioorganic compounds, as well as specialty, fine and agrochemicals. Specialties include: analytical standards, metabolites, tox lot batches, stable isotope labeled compounds, key intermediates, custom surfactants, combinational platforms, extraction/purification of natural products and process development.

This marks the sixth acquisition by Chemir Analytical Services, a privately owned rapidly growing corporation based in Maryland Heights, MO. In 1996, Dr. Thanedar acquired BETEC Laboratory in St. Paul, MN, absorbing new instrumentation and expertise in polymers.  In 2001 the company acquired Bodycote Industrial Testing Laboratories, a customized product testing facility in St. Louis. Retaining the name Industrial Testing Laboratories, this Chemir division focuses on product testing, metallurgical analyses, and mechanical testing.

The company has grown both internally and by acquisition.  In 2003, Lycoming Analytical Laboratories, in Pennsylvania and Guidelines Integrated Services in Florida were acquired. Now known as Azopharma, this company specializes in Phase I development of pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device products. In 2004 Chemir acquired PRA Laboratories, Michigan. This facility provides services to the paints, coatings and ink industries with analytical chemistry and formulation problem solving.

"The purchase of Gateway Chemical Technology is a key step in our next level of growth" says Thanedar, "in fact, we plan to expand soon to a new building.  This will be a dedicated cGMP/FDA regulated laboratory, perfect for our growing staff of pharmaceutical chemists." The Maryland Heights facility, located at 2672 Metro Blvd., will expand from 25,000 to 50,000 sq ft, with a staff projected at 100 by 2008.
